Young Musicians Entertain Austrian Audiences
66 students took part in the trip which saw the college orchestra, concert band, stage band and chamber choir give three extremely well-received concerts in St Gilgen, Berchtesgarden and Zell am See. The chamber choir were also invited to sing in Salzburg Cathedral, where Mozart was baptised. Away from the stage the pupils enjoyed a number of sightseeing excursions including trips to the Grossglockner, the highest mountain in Austria, and Hellbrunn Palace, famously featured in the film The Sound of Music. They also visited Mozart¹s former residence in Salzburg. St Mary's Director of Music, Simon Emery, commented: "This was an outstanding tour on all fronts. The concerts, accommodation and excursions were all really good but what was most impressive was the behaviour and conduct of our pupils which was always first class. It was a great honour to sing in Salzburg Cathedral and this is something that I am sure the students will remember for many years to come. Overall it was an excellent trip," added Mr Emery.
