Visit from Irish Author Peadar O Guilin
Up-and-coming Irish author Peadar O Guilin stopped off at St Mary's College in Crosby this week as part of a promotional tour for the paperback version of his novel, The Inferior. Peadar took part in a question-and-answer session with year seven pupils and read extracts from the science fiction story which is proving a big hit with teenage readers nationwide. All the children were also given a free copy of the book which Peader was happy to sign for them.

The
Inferior is set in a world which has echoes of stone-age life in which
humans live by one simple rule - eat or be eaten. Their daily battle
for survival involves hunting and eating alien species with whom they
share their world. When such species cannot be found, their only
source of food is each other. Despite its dark subject matter the
novel has been described as ‘an action and idea-packed blockbuster' and
‘a captivating read'. One critic has even compared its treatment of
the brutal breakdown of civilisation with William Golding's Lord of the
Flies. Commenting on the visit St Mary's College Librarian, Cath
Howard, said:
"Bearing in mind what the book is about we didn't
really know what to expect but Peadar turned out to be a gentle,
charming man. The children were very interested in what he had to say
and he frequently had them all in stitches laughing during his talk.
It was a really good visit".
