Students awarded Nuffield Bursaries
Three A level science students at St Mary's College have landed prestigious Nuffield Bursaries that will enable them to work on top-class research projects at Liverpool University during the summer holiday.
Lower sixth formers Claire Redmond, Christopher Forshaw and Tim Old competed against hundreds of other applicants to win the places and funding provided by the Nuffield Foundation.
Claire will spend her four weeks with Dr Andrew England of the university's Medical Imaging Department researching new techniques in this fascinating field.
Christopher will work alongside Dr Anna O'Connor in the Division of Orthoptics, studying eye diseases, while Tim¹s placement will be with Dr Fiona Gibbs of the Cancer Research Centre.
St Mary's Science Co-ordinator, Bob Johnston, who helps to organise the bursaries, said: "Every year some of our students manage to win places despite the stiff competition they face. I am extremely envious of the opportunities the three students have been given to do such exciting research. I'm sure they will love every minute and I look forward to hearing more about it next term."
