St Mary's joins in the world's biggest coffee morning
Students at St Mary's College have been brewing up to raise funds for charity.
Sixth formers served morning refreshments to teachers and other staff in the school library as part of the World's Biggest Coffee Morning, the national event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Fortunately it wasn't all hard work. After completing their waiting-on duties they were able to sit down and enjoy some of the delicious cakes that had been donated themselves. In total the event raised £88 for the charity which works to improve the lives of people affected by cancer by providing practical, medical and financial support and pushing for better cancer care.
St Mary's Principal, Mike Kennedy, commented: "I am delighted that our sixth formers decided to get involved in this event and raise funds for what is an exceptionally good cause. St Mary's students have an excellent track record in supporting charities and the coffee morning was another good example of how keen they are to make a difference."
Macmillan chiefs hope that when all the money is in this year's event will have been an even bigger success than in 2008 when 45,000 people held coffee mornings raising more than £7.5 million.
