St. Mary’s Hockey Duo Selected for North of England Squad
Two talented hockey players at St Mary's College have been selected for the North of England girls under 16 team. Year 11 students Eleanor James and Ellen Thomas have been training at England Hockey's regional performance centre in Manchester since May this year. After impressing the coaches with their skills, they were asked to attend the North of England trials in Durham in October where they both played well enough to be chosen as part of the final 18-girl squad.
Since then the girls have represented the North in the Futures Cup event in Staffordshire, a competition between the four English regions. Head of Girls PE, Miss Foster, commented: "Playing for the North is a real honour and Eleanor and Ellen have done incredibly well to reach this level, especially when you bear in mind that thousands of girls are involved in the sport across the region. Everyone at St Mary's College is very proud of what they have achieved and looking forward to them going on to further success in the sport in the future."
