St.Mary's girls put on their dancing shoes to help Roy Castle Charity

A group of girls from St Mary's College in Crosby put on their dancing shoes to help a leading cancer charity recently.
The Crosby students were one of 30 troupes taking part in a danceathon event at St George's Hall organised by the Merseyside-based Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
In total, around 1,000 children and young people presented a two-day, non-stop dance extravaganza in a wide range of styles including ballet, tap and street dance.
As each participant was sponsored, it is hoped that the event could raise up to £15,000 for the charity when all the money is collected in. St Mary's Head of Girls PE, Sally Townsley, commented: "The girls were delighted to take part in the danceathon and to help raise funds for what is an exceptionally good cause. "They did really well, performing a varied and exciting routine based on a series of songs with 'dance' in the title which went down really well with the audience."
According to a spokeswoman from the Roy Castle Foundation, the danceathon was such a success that the aim is to make it even bigger and better for 2011, when similar events could also be held in other cities.
