St. Mary's College Stages 12th Annual Philharmonic Concert
Talented music students from St Mary's College in Crosby take to the stage at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall later at the end of next month (March).
For the 12th year in a row, the school is mounting a showcase of the musical skills of its pupils at the famous venue at 7.30pm on Friday March 26th.
In total more than 150 students will perform at the event which will be compered by Liverpool actress Cathy Tyson, star of film and TV successes like Mona Lisa, Band of Gold, Emmerdale and Holby City.
The concert will feature a range of different musical groups from the college and its prep school The Mount.
They will include the award-winning Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Band, Stage Band, Jazz Band, Baroque String Ensemble, Show Choir, Chamber Choir and Prep School Choir as well as a number of gifted soloists.
In addition, there will be a guest appearance by children from Forefield Junior School in Crosby who will perform two pieces and take part in a massed choir item.
According to St Mary's Head of Music, Andrew Byers, the concert will take the audience on a musical journey from JS Bach to Hollywood as the young musicians perform pieces from a wide range of styles and genres.
Highlights will include the Bach Double Violin Concerto, And The Glory Of The Lord from Handel's Messiah, the Pirates of the Caribbean Suite and music by John Williams from the Steven Spielberg blockbuster ET.
Mr Byers commented: "Our Philharmonic concerts have been one of the highlights of the school calendar for many years and all the young musicians involved are excited about playing at such a prestigious venue.
"Of course, a lot of hard work goes into preparing for the event, but it's always thrilling on the night to see pupils of all ages rise to the occasion and play and sing well in such a spectacular setting."
