Ski Trip - December 2008
#
The 2008 Christmas Ski-trip saw us once again visit the excellent Civetta resort in the Italian Dolomites. A team of 57 pupils and 8 staff went on the trip and were greeted by the site of TOO MUCH snow. Indeed the snow was so high (as high as a double-decker bus in some areas) that only half of the resort was open for the first two days. Unperturbed, the St. Mary's pupils used these two days to hone their skills on the lower slopes before being unleashed on the whole resort for the last four days.
All the pupils made excellent progress and so did a few of the staff. By the end of the week all the pupils were awarded with high level bronze, silver and even some gold ski awards by the Italian Ski Federation. Off the slope, the evening activities were also excellent with Rob Howat's 'worm dance' being the highlight of the week for many. The pizza evening and sledging were also thoroughly enjoyable and it was great to see all of the children working well together irrespective of what age they were and whether they knew each other before the trip. 11 pupils who are also using skiing as part of their PE GCSE scored very highly. The trip was thoroughly enjoyable for all and was the perfect prelude to Christmas.
