Senior Maths Challenge - Success for St. Mary's!
Pupils at St. Mary’s College in Crosby recently figured out how to achieve success in a leading national maths competition.
Eight pupils were honoured in the Senior Maths Challenge event organised by the UK Mathematics Trust.
There were silver awards for Helen Sheehan and Emma Jenkins, and bronze awards for Anthony Bennett, Charlotte Carlisle, Jack Nugent, Eleanor James, Matthew Foulkes and Charlie Newell.
More than 65,000 pupils aged 16-19 from across the UK took part in the competition, with only two out of five receiving certificates.
Of this top 40 per cent the first six per cent received gold awards, the next 13 per cent silver and the remaining 21 per cent bronze.
St. Mary’s Head of Sixth Form, Daniel Magill, commented: “I would like to congratulate our students on their success. The best maths students from all over the country enter this event, and competition is fierce, so they have done very well to be recognised in this way.”
The UK Mathematics Trust is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in the subject.
It describes its Maths Challenges - organised in three different age groups - as ‘lively and intriguing’ competitions designed to ‘stimulate interest in maths in large numbers of pupils’.
