Scientific Research - Nuffield Bursaries Awarded
Four students from St. Mary’s College in Crosby are set for a summer of scientific research. Lower sixth formers Emma Jenkins, Sarah Mackay, Eleanor James and Helen Sheehan have landed prestigious Nuffield Bursaries that will enable them to work alongside professional scientists at Liverpool University during the long summer holiday. The four girls competed against hundreds of other applicants to win the four-week places and funding provided by the Nuffield Foundation. In previous years St. Mary's students have worked on medical imaging projects and research into eye diseases and cancer.
St. Mary’s Head of Science, Bob Johnston, commented: “These four students have done the college proud in the face of stiff competition from young people from other schools all over the North West. “Their success demonstrates St. Mary’s strength in depth in the sciences and I am sure the girls will really benefit from working on such top-class research projects.”
