Good Shepherd Fundraising
Staff and pupils at St Mary's College have been celebrating a grand charity achievement.
Following fundraising efforts throughout Lent, the school has been able to hand over £1,000 to the Good Shepherd Collection run by leading Archdiocese of Liverpool charity Nugent Care.
The collection - an annual fundraiser since 1902 - supports the charity's work with vulnerable, disabled and disadvantaged people across the region.
The St Mary's pupils raised the money through a series of activities including cake sales, raffles, quizzes, competitions, car washes and sponsored events.
A cheque was handed over to Archbishop Patrick Kelly at a special celebration mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral.
In total the pupils' efforts raised almost £2,000. The balance has been split between a number of other charities including Cancer Research UK, Autism Initiatives, sgjpice in Thornton and Queenscourt Hospice in Southport.
St Mary's Head of Lower School, Karen Lane, commented: "Our pupils have an impressive track record in charity fundraising and worked really hard again this year to support the Good Shepherd Collection and the other good causes. They are a credit to the school."
Chaplain Father Patrick Harnett holds the Nugent Care certificate marking the donation. He is pictured with Principal Michael Kennedy alongside Head Boy Peter Murphy and pupils.
