German Exchange (Part 2)
...the oldest stone bridge of Europe ‘die Steinerne Brücke'
...with the historic ‘sausage hut, (die Historische Wurstküche) next to it;
...there was also the Gothic Cathedral,
...the medieval town hall (das Alte Rathaus)
...and the Patrician Towers (die Patriziertürme)...
...which belonged to the richest merchants in the Middle Ages - the higher the tower, the richer the merchant! After all this culture there was even time to explore some the local shops in order to buy souvenirs and presents.
Thursday was totally different. A bus took us through the picturesque landscape of the Bavarian Forest to our first stop, a glass factory,
...where the students watched how glass balls were blown. They were also allowed to do it themselves. This was followed by a trip deeper into the forest to the so called ‘Waldwipfelweg',
...a path built on high stilts which led to a viewpoint overlooking the Bavarian Forest. Although the weather was fantastic all week it was a bit too hazy to see the Alps. This was followed by an activity the pupils had been looking forward to all week: summer tobogganing (Sommerrodelbahn).

There was only time for one more day, Friday, in school in order to say goodbye to newly made friends and to do any last-minute shopping in the afternoon. On Saturday the pupils were taken to Munich airport by their families and after many hugs it was time to say goodbye to their partners and their families. No doubt this trip will be remembered by all participants for a long time and hopefully they will stay in touch with their new friends. This valuable experience will be a great motivation to enhance their learning of German.
