Festival Success for Crosby School Choir
Young singers from a Crosby school have landed one of the top prizes in a prestigious Liverpool arts festival.
The concert choir from the St Mary’s College prep school, the Mount, took first place in the primary school choir section of the 84th Liverpool Festival of Performing Arts at St George’s Hall.
The choir, which is made up of children in years 5 and 6, is directed by St. Mary’s Director of Music Simon Emery.
The pupils impressed the audience with their performances of two songs, Wake Up to the World of Light and - from the musical West Side Story - One Hand ne Heart. The adjudicator praised the Mount youngsters for their impressive voices and discipline saying: ‘What beautiful singing with words so clear and phrases understood and sung through. This is an excellent choir. ’Mount Headmaster, Michael Collins, said: ‘We’re delighted at the success of the choir which is all down to the hard work and enthusiasm of the children.
’Music features very strongly in the lives of the all the pupils here at the Mount so to achieve such a prestigious award is obviously very pleasing.’
