Excellent GCSE Results
St. Mary’s College in Crosby is celebrating another excellent set of GCSE results this year.
98 per cent of the school’s candidates achieved at least five A*-C grades, up from 96 per cent in 2010, and over a third of students achieved seven or more A* or A grades each. Of these, 16 students achieved ten or more A* or A passes, with the seven top performers recording an impressive 12 A* or A grades each.
These were Hannah Greenway, Lawrence Gillam, Katherine Ashcroft, Alastair Cawdron, Adele Kletz, Anna Foat and Patrick Power.
A brother and sister studying together at co-educational St. Mary’s College proved that success runs in the family. Twins Alastair and Ruth Cawdron from Blundellsands achieved an outstanding 23 A* and A grades between them. Alastair got seven A*s and five As and Ruth six A*s and five As.
Alastair commented: “We are both thrilled with our results. We have always helped and encouraged each other with our studies so it was a real team effort.”
Ruth added: “We can’t wait to start the Sixth Form at St. Mary’s and continue with our studies as well as our other activities, especially sport and music.”
St. Mary’s Principal, Mike Kennedy, said: “I am delighted with these outstanding results which are a testament to the hard work of our students and the support they have received from staff and parents throughout their time at the school.
“I am particularly pleased with the increase in the percentage of pupils achieving at least five A*-C grades and the high number of students obtaining ten or more A* and A grades, which reflects the quality and breadth of our curriculum.”
Mr Kennedy added: “Achieving excellent results at GCSE level is a great foundation on which young people can build future success at A level, at university and in their chosen careers. All our students and their families should be very proud of what they have achieved.”
