The Christian Brothers are moving from St Mary’s as the college has now become an independent charitable trust. However, the school remains committed to supporting the spiritual, educational and charitable principles of Edmund Rice, founder of the Christian Brothers movement. The thanksgiving service, which was attended by a number of former Heads, included a procession taking in the former Christian Brothers house and chapel before mass was celebrated in the school hall. The College Principal Mrs. Jean Marsh, commented: “This was a very moving event which highlighted the huge contribution that the Christian Brothers have made to the school and to the area. Even though they will no longer have a formal base here they will still have a strong influence on our work and our pupils, as we continue to follow their consistent and powerful message. This is that we should live to be of service to others, to take responsibility for the world we inhabit and to make a difference”.
