Alice and Stephen take up leading College roles
St Mary’s College has appointed students from south Sefton and Knowsley to the key roles of Head Boy and Head Girl for this school year.
Head Girl Alice Mackay from Crosby is studying sciences at A Level and aims to read medicine at university next year.
She is also an accomplished singer and musician and has played an important role in helping St Mary’s to maintain its very successful record in public speaking events over the years.
Head Boy Stephen Mallinson from Kirkby is studying Geography, English, History and Business Studies at A Level and plans to read law at university.
He is also a prominent member of the St Mary’s Combined Cadet Force and looking further ahead he is considering a career as an officer in the British Army.
Choosing a Head Boy and Head Girl is a very in-depth process at St Mary’s.
Initially staff nominate around 30 pupils who they feel should be considered for the roles. Then staff and sixth formers are invited to cast their votes to produce a shortlist of eight.
The final selection is then made on the basis of interviews with these candidates conducted by Principal Mike Kennedy and Head of Sixth Form, Daniel Magill.
Mr Kennedy commented: “When we choose our Head Boy and Head Girl we look for a wide range of personal skills and a proven track record of service to the college and the wider community.
“Alice and Stephen have these qualities in abundance. They are full of initiative, endeavour and sincerity and we are fortunate to have them in these important roles.”

Mike Kennedy welcomes Alice and Stephen to their new roles.
