Saint's stun Stonyhurst!
The First X1 football team played against Stonyhurst on Wednesday afternoon. The boy's were very impressed with the school grounds and the history of the school that has Sir Arthur Connan Doyle as a past old boy.
The home side started strongly going ahead after ten minutes due to some fine play down the left hand side of the pitch. Lewis Saunders equalised for us shortly after and then Stonyhurst took the lead several minutes later. James Taylor got us back on level terms on the stroke of half time.
The second half started brightly with James Taylor getting on the end of a long ball over the top, to finely lob the on-coming goalkeeper, 3-2 the Saints! Poor marking at a corner by the Saint's left a free header at the back post that forced the scores level once again. End to end stuff prevailed until five minutes before the end when Oliver Gallagher scored a goal worthy to win any game blasting low into the bottom left hand side of the net from 25 yards. From then on there was no way back for the home side and the final whistle went shortly afterwards giving the Saints a memorable victory.
There were some admirable performances on the day, Michael Bennett and Keiran Orme were as dependable as ever, the captain Lee Barnes and his younger brother Chad (who was making his First X1 debut (both worked hard throughout) however, man of the match was James Taylor who has been outstanding up front all season. Well done gents, we are all very proud of you.
