Focus on Charity
Pupils at St Mary's College in Crosby have rounded off their annual spring charity campaign by collecting a range of items to help people in poor countries overseas.
Students have been hunting out unwanted pairs of glasses, mobile phones and football kit to help three very good causes.
The spectacles will be sent to Vision Aid Overseas, a charity that refurbishes or repairs the glasses and then distributes them for use by people in developing nations.
The mobile phones will go to CAFOD (the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development), where they will be sold to raise funds to support the charity's work tackling poverty and injustice in more than 60 countries worldwide.
And the football boots and other kit will be given to Marine Football Club which is supporting the Boots for Africa campaign. This charity aims to help disadvantaged children develop their soccer skills and fitness and enjoy the ‘beautiful game'.
St Mary's College Principal, Mike Kennedy, said: "I would like to pay tribute to our students who have put a huge amount of time into a range of charitable activities recently.
"Thanks to all their efforts a number of good causes will benefit, from homeless people and victims of domestic violence here on Merseyside through to people in poor and war-torn countries across the globe."
