Dominic Rocks the Cavern!
A talented young guitarist from St Mary's College in Crosby has been rocking Liverpool's famous Cavern Club as part of a new music industry training programme.
Dominic Dunn has been involved in the Cavern's Rock School initiative, a course which provides aspiring musicians with weekly lessons from expert tutors and culminates in a gig at the legendary club where The Beatles were discovered.
12-year-old Dominic was the youngest person to get through the auditions to take part in the course. The oldest musician was 50, with the average age being around 18.
As well as instrumental tutoring sessions, the students took part in a day dedicated to songwriting and vocal techniques led by Ian Prowse of well-known local bands Amsterdam and Pele.
There was also a masterclass on working in the music industry with Wirral-born drummer Chris Sharrock who has played with Oasis and the Robbie Williams band.
The final part of the course saw the musicians being split into bands for three weeks of coached rehearsals in the run-up to a graduation gig at the Matthew Street club.
This showcase event was open to the public and proved to be a big success with a large audience watching the students playing both cover versions and original material.
St Mary's Head of Lower School, Karen Lane, commented: "Although Dominic is still very young he already has a wealth of experience - he has been playing the guitar since he was seven and performing in public since he was eight.
"We were delighted to hear about his involvement with the Rock School initiative. Meeting professional musicians and playing on the famous Cavern stage must have been a really exciting experience."
