Swiss Music Tour for College Students
The hills were alive with music from Crosby recently when students from St Mary’s College played a series of concerts in Switzerland. 65 pupils from Years 8-13 took part in the ten-day tour of Geneva and neighbouring districts. They included members of the college’s symphony orchestra, symphonic wind band, chamber choir and stage band.
The talented young musicians performed four concerts in front of packed audiences to great acclaim. Away from the stage, other highlights of the trip included fun at a lakeside water park and a visit to the ski resort of Chamonix near Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps.
St Mary’s Director of Music, Andrew Byers, commented: “This was an outstanding tour on all fronts. Our students rose to the occasion to perform a challenging repertoire with finesse and great musicianship. They were a credit to the school.”
St Mary’s has a well-established tradition of musical tours. Previous destinations have included Australia, Hong Kong, Canada, Italy and Austria. Further tours are already being planned for 2011 and 2012.
