Double Sports Success
Staff and pupils at St. Mary’s College in Crosby are celebrating a double success in girls sport. The year 11 hockey team, captained by Emily Anderson, won the Sefton knockout tournament after beating old rivals Merchant Taylors’ Girls’ School in a thrilling final. With things all square at full time, the match went to penalty flicks with the St. Mary’s girls eventually doing just enough to win the game by a 3-0 margin.

Meanwhile, the St. Mary’s year 9 netball squad are also champions of Sefton after winning the borough knockout event for their age group. This was just one of several successes this season for the team skippered by Niamh Ruane. They also finished second in the Sefton league competition and third in the Merseyside county finals.

St Mary’s Head of Girls PE, Sally Townsley, commented: “I would like to congratulate these two teams on their performances in the Sefton events this season which have been a credit to themselves and the school. “Their achievements also reflect a real strength in depth in girls sport at the school at the moment which bodes well for future years.”
