All of our netballers have had an excellent term.Year 8, captained by Hannah Campbell, Year 9, captained by Jessica Bartolo, and Year 10, captained by Niamh Ruane are all the current Sefton champions for their age group. In addition, Year 8 came third in the league and Year 10 came second. Year 10 are the county runners-up, losing only to Wirral Grammar.

The Senior Squad have also had a very successful run. Captained by Rachel Miller, they finished third in the county championships.

Meanwhile, as the hockey season draws to a close, all of our girls have been very successful in the recent Sefton tournaments. Year 8, captained by Gabrielle Bogle, Year 10, captained by Niamh Thomas, and Year 11, captained by Olivia Rath, all played very well to end the season as runners-up.

A great number of St. Mary’s girls have also taken part in the cross country this term and represented us well. Special commendation must go to Rochanne Mellor, finishing 6th out of a large number of Year 7 girls, and to Giorgia Kershaw,  who came 4th competing against Year 11 and Senior girls.

St. Mary's pupils enjoy successful French ski trip

A party of 60 pupils from St. Mary’s College recently enjoyed a week-long ski trip to France.

The students - accompanied by eight members of staff - were based in the popular resort of Isola in the southern French Alps.

Thanks to heavy snow on the first day of the trip, conditions were perfect for the rest of the week, with skiing in the sun on most days.

Full days on the slopes were followed by equally busy evenings of night skiing and bumboarding as well as social events including quiz nights and discos.

Party leader, Derek Williams, commented: “All the pupils and staff on this trip had a ball - the location of the resort and the skiing conditions were fantastic.

“As usual, our pupils were also a credit to the school. Our ski rep said they were the most polite group of students he had ever encountered.

“All in all, the trip was a huge success and I am sure everyone who took part will look back on it as one of the highlights of the school year,” added Mr Williams.

All white in the night - skiing in the dark was one of the popular evening activities for the St. Mary's students.
