This is a very linguistically demanding course and requires a lot of dedication from all students. We build on the basic Latin acquired in year 9.

The GCSE has four written papers, all of which are taken at the end of year 11.
There is no coursework.
The four papers are as follows:
- Latin Language I : Comprehension and translation of a series of Latin passages based on mythological or Roman domestic subjects
- Latin Language II : Comprehension and translation of a series of Latin passages based on Roman historical themes
- Latin Prose Literature : An in-depth study of selected passages in the original Latin from the Roman historian Tacitus and the famous political rhetorician Cicero
- Latin Verse Literature : An in-depth study of selected poetry in the original Latin from Ovid, Catullus, Sulpicia and Horace
This course would particularly suit students who enjoy foreign languages and finding out about Roman life and literature.
