GCSE Art
The course offered is Drawing and Painting, which is intended for pupils who aim to excel in drawing and draughtsmanship and, ultimately, have the ability to observe and record accurately, analytically and with sensitivity. In this course qualities of composition, rhythm, colour and surface texture will be important, along with an understanding of perspective. The interpretation for personal observation through expressive two-dimensional form, in a variety of media, will be undertaken.
Students will experience a wide choice of media and be encouraged to perceive and record accurately their surrounding environment. The mastery of media and the ability to successfully express and record, will be a pre-requisite to their artistic development. Themes will be set and within these themes a personal, interpretative response will be expected. The coursework undertaken, within set themes, is designed to develop the students' analytical and observational skills. Sketch book and drawing pads will be essential, to collate information, record and develop ideas. All work produced both in school and at home form the content of the portfolio, which will ultimately be assessed and contribute 60% of the final mark, therefore sustained effort will effortlessly result in a set of work which will fulfil the exam criteria. The final exam, executed over a 10 hour period, at the end of the 2 year course, will contribute 40% of the final mark.
