Two Crosby schools have joined forces to raise more than £2,000 for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

St Mary's College and its prep school, The Mount, asked pupils and staff to donate £1 each to help the victims of the January 12th catastrophe.

Thanks to a magnificent response from both school communities, which saw many people donating far more than the requested amount, the total raised was £2,050 which has been sent to the Disasters Emergency Committee.

The money will support international efforts to provide food, supplies, medical care and sanitation equipment to the estimated three million people coping with the aftermath of the disaster in the earthquake zone around Port-au-Prince.

College Principal, Mike Kennedy, commented: "Both St Mary's and The Mount have an excellent track record in raising money for local, national and international charities when help is most needed.

"I know my colleague, Mount Headteacher Michael Collins, will want to join me in congratulating staff, pupils and their families on their efforts to support what is an exceptionally good cause."
