School pproduction of Euripides’ Medea
The St. Mary’s College Classics department and Drama department have joined forces to put on a production of Medea by Euripides on 1st and 2nd March. Originally written over 2,500 years ago and performed in Athens, our version keeps the original script but it has been revised and updated. Set in the late 1950’s, Medea is a famous woman constantly hounded by the paparazzi and the press. The media go into a frenzy when her equally famous husband Jason leaves her for a new wife. As the press watch, Medea plots her husband’s downfall and the destruction of everything he cares for. Jason claims that the most important thing in the world is to be famous but soon discovers how wrong he is.
