Former Pupil Visits to talk Medicine
Former Head Boy, Kieran Lennon who left the College in 1984 and is now a Consultant Neuro-Anaesthetist, kindly agreed to talk to current pupils who are considering taking up a career in medicine.
Kieran kept a group of students from Year 11, Lower and Upper Sixth spellbound for over one hour as he delivered an overview of his progression from the St. Mary's classroom, through medical school and out onto the country's motorways, where he had spent much of his working life attending traffic accidents and performing life-saving operations. In what was often a very matter-of-fact style, and pulling no punches, Kieran left the students in no doubt about the work involved in a doctor's life, the long hours, the stress and the heartache. But there were some compensations. He certainly loved the work that he had done. And, would he choose to be a doctor if he again had the choice? On balance, said Kieran, he would!
