Just before school finished for the summer break a group of 30 pupils from years 10, 11 and L6 went to visit the Engineering department of Liverpool University. The morning consisted of some excellent talks introducing pupils to the different types of Engineering that the university has to offer and how expertise in these areas can be of benefit in solving everyday problems. The pupils were then given a campus tour followed by a delicious lunch!

There were two activities in the afternoon : a wind tunnel investigation of sports car aerodynamics for the older pupils whilst the year 10’s had great fun Egg Balloon Racing - trying to find the optimum weight needed to float a balloon the length of a lab. This certainly brought out a competitive streak in the majority of our pupils. The biggest challenge of the day was taking some huge balloons home on the train without bursting them and frightening the other commuters!
