Isle of Man Golf Champions
St Mary’s College scored a remarkable double over the weekend by winning all three competitions the King William’s College Annual Golf Tournament. Schools such as Stoneyhurst, Bolton and Lancaster Grammar regularly compete at the top rated Castletown Links Course in this prestigious competition. After three years of trying, St Mary’s (A) team returned back to the clubhouse with a combined (best scores from 5) Stableford score of 153 points. James Cotter won the individual best score with 42 points. In the afternoon the same group of boys then posted a remarkable 10 under par in the Texas Scramble winning that competition also. It was a remarkable day’s golf by all the College boys. James Rooney scored 35 points off a handicap of 9, which is a fantastic score for such a low handicapper. Edward Leonard scored 42 points, which equalled James Cotters score, but lost out on a count back. Andrew Knight sunk two 30 footers when the pressure was on. Newcomer, Charlie Newell scored a very respectable 33 points in the morning competition and was also part of the Texas Scramble winning team. Unfortunately we say goodbye to James, Adam and Michael this year but the PE Department would just like to thank them for all their efforts over the years. Well done gentelmen!
