Edinburgh tour a huge success
28 boys departed for the annual Cricket tour to Stewart Melville College
in Edinburgh to play against Mr. Higgins' or the 'Professor's' new school
as he is now known and a thoroughly enjoyable trip was had by all.
The under 14s narrowly lost out ina two day international match.
Batting first, St. Mary's scored 211 for two declared with Ben Sloan
scoring 100 and Conor Allison 83
Stewart Melville College scored 147 all out with Patrick Nevin and
Chris Bartolo both taking key wickets.
On day two, St. Mary's batted poorly and were restricted to 90 for 9
declared, setting Stewart Melville College 155 for victory which they
made with three overs to spare.
The under 13s played two one day internationals against a strong
Stewart Melville College team. Batting first Stewart Melville College
scored 157 runs with St Mary's responding with 103 with only Owen
Griffiths and Jack Gordon contributing anything of note. On the
second day, St. Mary's fought back and managed to square the series
with some fine bowling by Andrew Bonner and again with Owen Griffiths
and this time Joe Lamb contributing well with the bat.
Off the pitch the boys were magnificent. We went to the castle, the
Botanical Gardens, the beach and enjoyed a three course meal with
the opposition in Ti amo's which we are reliably informed means,
'I love you.'
We also went to the beach where the under 14 cricketers beat the
under 13 cricketers 5-4 at football.
The boys were magnificent and were a credit to the school. Well done to all
