Saints just miss out in two thrillers
St. Mary's took two teams to Maricourt on thursday and narrowly missed out losing 4-3 in both games. The year 7 team lost 4-3 despite two goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and one from Jack Lenahan. The year 10 team put in a much improved performance losing 4-3 again despite a brace from Tom Nugent and a penalty from Macauley Lawrenson. Max Cope was outstanding.
Last weekend's rugby was a mixed affair with three teams losing and three teams winning. The qst XV lost 29-2 at Rydal as did the 2nd XV and the under 12s won 31-17 maintaining their unbeaten record thus far. The under 15s lost 37-12 but the under 13s and 14s both won comfortably at home.
The 2nd XI football team drew 2-2 with QEGS Blackburn thanks to goals from Ben Blackburn and Paddy McKenna but the 1st XI lost 3-0 in two excellent matches.

1st XV overcome St. John Rigby
SMC 1st XV beat St. John Rigby 41-10 in the Lancashire Cup 1st Round. A strong performance by the entire side, but in particular two tries apiece from Year 11 students Reece Hogarth & Tom Owens helped SMC progress to the next round. Nick Carter, Jonny Bonner and skipper James Moore also scored with three conversions from Anthony Bennett.
Under 15s progress in Lancashire Cup
SMC beat Bolton GS 55-14 in an exciting 1st Round match. At 22-14 at half time, this match could have gone either way but SMC went through the gears in the second half with an emphatic performance. Owen Griffiths was outstanding, however it was very pleasing to see relative newcomers to the game Rob Wallbank, Mark Cartwright and Chris Coughlin playing so well and Fraser Stubbs and Carl Bungay had arguably their best games for the maroon and gold.
Under 12s
The under 12s beat Meol's Cop 8-3 in the first round of the Sefton Cup, the star of the show was Trent Alexander Arnold with four goals.
