5 from 6 against Rydal
The boys from both schools battled gamely in the blustery conditions in a fixture that was evenly matched at most age groups.
The 1st XV lost 10-8 in a fantastic and tense match against a strong Rydal team. It appeared that St. Mary's had done the hard work, going in at half-time 0-0 having battled against the wind. However, Rydal kept the ball tight in the seciond half picking and going and playing off their fly-half and raced into an early 5-0 lead in the second half. St. Mary's fought back with an excellent try by Jacob Allen in the corner. Oliver Gallagher put St. Mary's ahead 8-5 with three minutes to play and after a well caught kick-off by Tom Manley it seemed that St. Mary's were to close the game down to grind out a win. With the last play of the match, Rydal chanced their arm from under their own posts anbd went the length of the field to score.
In the 2nd XV game was another close affair, this time St. Mary's were the winners 17-5. Well orchestrated by Joe Reade, SMC dominated this game with Alex Lunt, Daniel Cousins and George Lightfoot scoring tries and Joe Reade adding a conversion. It is particularly pleasing to see Danny Cousins and Alex Lunt making such an impact this year. Daniel is starting the game this year and Alex is returning to the game after a minor break (presumably concentrating on his studies) and are both having a great impact on this young 2nd XV.
The under 15s won comfortably 53-0, the under 14s won 43-10 with Chris Coughlin scoring his first ever try and the under 13s won 41-12 all on the road.
The under 12s won 27-26 in a lovely game that could have gone either way. Most felt a draw was an appropriate result but SMC snatched it. Try scorers were sgjh Cracknell, Joel Clarke, Max Davies( plus a conversion), Harry Howat and Luke Gordon. All of the boys were outstanding.
Under 12 27-26
