Friends of St Mary's Second Annual Dinner
The VIP guest at the event was former pupil Paul Clark, a barrister for more than 30 years who practises at Liverpool's Exchange Chambers. Mr Clark is also a City Councillor who was Lord Mayor of Liverpool for a year until May this year, a period that saw him playing a key ceremonial role in many aspects of the city's Capital of Culture celebrations. In an amusing speech the former Mayor looked back at some of the highlights and gaffes of his year in office! Recalling his time at St Mary's in the 1960s, when he was a Beatles fan, Mr Clark also spoke about his herculean efforts to avoid those teachers who took a dim view of his longer mop-top hairstyle!
Some members of the Committee
Commenting on the event Michael Mansour, Chair of the Friends of St Mary's, said: "We were all delighted at the success of our second reunion dinner. There was a really good atmosphere at the event which once again proved to be an evening of great company, great food and great music. For those people with a connection to St Mary's the Friends organisation is now firmly established as a focus for their links with the school. In the 18 months since our launch our membership has grown to more than 800, a figure that will continue to rise as our programme of activities and events develops over the coming year," added Mr Mansour.
