Unit 1: A two hour listening, reading and writing exam
(70% of total AS marks - 35% of A2)
Unit 2: a fifteen-minute speaking test
(30% of total AS marks - 15% of A2)

Unit 3: A two and a half hour listening, reading and writing exam
(35% of total marks at A2)
Unit 4: A fifteen-minute speaking test
(15% of total marks at A2))
We do not enter students for examinations in the January of their Lower Sixth year, but either or both AS units can be retaken, if necessary, in the January or June examination sessions of the Upper Sixth year.
The Topics
Media: TV, advertising and communication technology.
Popular culture: cinema, music and fashion trends. Special emphasis will be given to the study of the excellent film "Les Choristes."
Healthy living & lifestyle: exercise, health, well-being and holidays.
Family / relationships: relationships within the family, friendships and marriage/partnerships.
A2
Environment: pollution, energy and protecting the planet.
The multi-cultural society: immigration, integration and racism.
Contemporary social issues: wealth and poverty, law and order and the impact of scientific and technological progress.
Cultural topics: Candidates prepare two topics of their choice for both the written exam and the speaking test. Possible topics include the study of a film, a novel, a singer, a poet or a region of France.
